Seattle will spend millions on upgrades to police North Precinct

By: Linzi Sheldon

After plans for a $150 million North precinct facility for Seattle police were put on hold, Mayor Jenny Durkan is speaking out about her own plans for a facility and how she plans to address problems at the current station in the meantime.

KIRO 7 was invited to go along with the mayor as she toured the facility on Monday.

  1. Let’s really focus a new police building conversation around:

    1) the idea that the north precinct is asked to cover an area 5 times greater than any other precinct in the Seattle area

    2) by virtue of this large land mass to police, the north end actually needs TWO facilities

    3) contracting costs are in the millions because this building is a COMMUNITY building and needs to conform to 9.0 earthquake standards that other buildings don’t.

    4) regarding the comment made “the people have spoken”…yes, Sawant arranged a lot of LOUD voices…from folks NOT living in the north end and from folks NOT informed about policies and procedures for the police of the north end.

5). The longer the delay for the North precinct
being helped to get more officers on the streets, the longer myself and neighbors have to wait for help when calling 911🙃

    • Kandi, thank you for your comment. I did the post on our site because it seems like the North Precinct conversations stop.

  2. I would be interested in knowing how many of the protesters live in this area? We really need a precinct to deal with the issues on Aurora: prostitutes, drugs, homeless, car prowlers… List is really long… And my neighborhood pays very high taxes with little to no results/improvements.
