Open House July 31st About Proposed New Affordable Housing
DESC is working on a new affordable housing development in the Bitter Lake neighborhood, located at 924 & 934 N 143rd Street. DESC has partnered with Bellwether Housing to acquire the property and to develop affordable housing together. Our plans include construction of a new building, starting in fall of 2020. When complete, the new building will feature approximately 96-144 studio units of affordable housing with supportive services and indoor/outdoor community spaces for single adults who are disabled and formerly homeless. DESC will continue to own and operate the building after completion.
Being a good neighbor is important to us. In an effort to learn more about neighborhood interests and provide neighbors with more details, we are hosting an informational open house about this new housing development. We invite you and anyone who is interested in learning more to join us on: Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 6:30 – 7:30 PM at the Bitter Lake Community Center 13035 Linden Ave N., Seattle, WA 98133 in the Multipurpose Room More information about this project is available at: www.desc.org/what-we-do/housing/n143rd/
For 40 years, DESC has been the primary resource for the most vulnerable people living without housing in the region. We work to implement innovative and cost-effective strategies that end homelessness. These include permanent supportive housing, behavioral health care, crisis intervention, emergency shelter and outreach, and employment services. DESC’s Supportive Housing Program operates over 1400 units of housing in Seattle, winning multiple national awards along the way. Last year, DESC served over 9,000 individuals and helped 508 people move off the streets into permanent supportive housing. DESC has been developing supportive housing since 1994 and has produced 13 projects in that time, with a 14th project scheduled to start construction this summer in South Seattle. Along with approximately 177 affordable housing units, this project will also include an integrated physical and behavioral healthcare clinic. DESC and its team of architects and contractors have been recognized for quality design and construction. For more information about DESC please visit our website www.desc.org. We also welcome your questions. Please contact DESC’s Executive Director Daniel Malone at (206) 515-1523 or dmalone@desc.org. If you are unable to attend the open house but would like to be included on future updates as our plans progress, please email info@desc.org. If you own a property in the neighborhood and rent it out, we encourage you to forward this information to your tenants.
